Personal Injury

Dog Bites

Illinois offers strong protection to dog bite victims. In most cases an owner is liable even without any prior history of the animal being dangerous.

You do not have to prove the dog bit before

Under the Illinois Animal Control Act, an owner is generally liable when their dog injures a person who was lawfully present and did not provoke the animal. Unlike some states, there is no free first bite. Injuries to children are especially common and often affect the face, requiring surgery and leaving lasting scars.

Compensation typically comes through the homeowner's or renter's insurance policy, and we handle that claim so a difficult situation with a neighbor or acquaintance stays as smooth as possible.
